4 Useful Closet Tips

I have a tendency of  buying items not outfits. Then somehow I end up with a bunch of clothes but I still seem to have nothing to wear. So I have put together a few tips to help create a more useful closet full of things you will actually wear.

1. Organize your closet in a specific order.

When I say specific order I mean color coordinated or all the long sleeve shirts together. You may have to play around with your closet the first time you arrange it because it hardly ever works the first time around.

2. Put away off season clothes.

For example if it is summer time put away all of your winter clothes, that way when the cold weather comes around you will fell like you have a million more things to choose from.

3. Deep Clean

A good rule of thumb is deep clean twice a year. I clean out everything in my entire house, including my closet once during winter break and once during summer break. That way I can take a few days and not have to worry about getting my homework done.

4. Six Month Rule

When I say six month rule I am not talking about boyfriends LOL!! I am taking about clothes. If you have not worn it or thought about wearing it in the past six months than you probably are not going to miss it if it happens to end up to Goodwill.

Top 10

Top 10 Things Everyone Needs in Their Closet

These 10 things are very versatile and can totally mix and match to make a million outfits

1. Jean Jacket

Jean jackets are probably the most versatile pieces of clothing in my closet. You can wear a jean jacket with black skinny jeans and colored top, statement necklace and black wedges. You can also wear a jean jacket with colored shorts in the summer or a cute sun dress.

2. Black Skinny Jeans

Black skinny jeans are a great alternative to jeans, and they are a MUCH better option than leggings. A skinny black pant can work good for winter or spring because they are tight enough around the calf and ankle to wear boots, you can cuff them into capris in the spring and wear them with flats or sandals, and you can also wear wedges with them. Black jeans can also be dressed up with a loose fitting tank and a black blazer.

3. Striped Shirt

A striped shirt is cute because it is different than a plain t shirt. I am not a fan of printed tops, so stripes are the next best thing. Stripes can go with black jeans, long black skirt, jean jacket boots, flats, or wedges. You can add a scarf in the winter or a statement necklace in the spring to dress up the shirt.

4. Colored Cross Body

When you buy something that is such an outrageous color that does not go with anything in your closet, it some how ends up going with everything.

5. Dark Wash Jeans

Dark wash jeans, are a statement in themselves. In order to keep them a dark denim I would them every four or five wear. Washing them inside out with cold water will also help secure the blueness of the denim.

6. Statement Necklace

Statement necklaces are a really easy way to add style and class to any outfit. I am currently loving the bubble necklace from J Crew, however it is about $100 so I have found a knock off on Amazon.

7. Plain Colored Tops

When I say plain colored tops, I am taking about the basics (black, white, grey) Once you find a top that you love, buy it in every single color.

8. Loose Fitting Tank Tops (colored)

Loose fitting tank tops are a simple basic that can be worn all year long. A longer thank can look cute with a blazer, wedges or boot and a statement necklace to add style.

9.  Black or Colored Blazer

Of course I love black blazers, however if you like color than I would opt for a colored blazer. You can wear it with black skinnies, jeans or a dress. Adding a statement necklace can add class and style.

10. Nude or Black Wedges

I really like black wedges because I think it looks more classy. Nude wedges are cute for spring and summer but I would not wear them all year long.

Day of Love Outfits

I know I am not the only one who has a hard time figuring out what to wear on Valentines day. It can be really awkward, if you're trying to impress someone, if you have a sugar pie, or if your just plain single you probably want to be looking you best that day.

I am a firm believer that when you look great, you feel great. If you look great people usually tell you that you look it, therefore boosting your confidence and making you feel good about yourself. I also do not believe that you need to spend a ton of money on clothing.

All of the clothing items above can all mix and match together. All of the tops can go with any of the bottoms and most of the shoes. I tried to stay with the red, purple, pink and coral theme for valentines day, however there is nothing wrong with wearing blue, green or something else.

Now that you have seen all of these cute clothes now look in your closet and see if you have anything that will work to replicate them before running out and spending hundreds on new clothes!

*all of these clothing items were taken from Nordstrom

If you need any help with an outfit for the special day, feel free to shoot me an email rachelteramura@gmail.com and I am more than happy to help you out!!

One Stop Shop

People always ask me where I buy my clothes, nine times out of ten, I respond NORDSTROM!

One thing I cannot stand is driving all over town to find that perfect outfit for an upcoming event. There is honestly nothing worse than buying a cute pair of shoes and than not finding anything to wear with them.

Nordstrom is seriously a ONE STOP SHOP for everything! I know you may think I sound crazy when I say I only shop at one place but I have several reasons why

  • Nordstrom hands down has the best customer service out of any department store
  • Offer free shipping 24/7
  • Will take back anything

All in all Nordstrom wants their customer to be 100 percent satisfied at all times. They provide their clients with personal and exceptional service no matter what you buy.
I think Nordstrom is a great company to work for because they strive on making retail a career not just a job by hiring within the company. At Nordstrom everyone starts out with same pay, working retail, then you can make your way into management and cooperate rolls.

What's Your Purpose?

Something my parents have always told me is “do everything with purpose”  and now that I am in college I am learning more ways to show people my own purpose and to leave my mark on the world.
Some people may wonder, why write this blog. Like what the heck is the point?  But I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that I love fashion. Clothes, dressing people and making them feel better about themselves; there is nothing that brings me more joy. So I guess that is the reason for starting a blog. I LOVE CLOTHES! There I said it! :)I write this blog originally for my Writing 121 lass last year, however it  has kind of sprung into something I never expected. I aim it for college women and anyone who is interested in fashion and boosting their self confidence. I hope by reading this blog, you discover a stylish part of yourself you never knew you had, or you just become more stylish by reading!I hope you enjoy!

Why Do People Blog?

I am so sorry this is a SUPER long post... but I promise it is worth the read. Enjoy! Wishing you all a happy Tuesday!

Let’s start with some blog history! I started this blog last Monday, totally random, I know. Some people might ask why would you start a blog now? Well, it’s a Monday night... and I am trying to avoid doing homework and studying for finals. However, the main reason I started this blog was because of my Writing 121 class and a paper I wrote for the class. The paper was all about why people blog and what the point of fashion blogging is. After writing the paper I came to a conclusion, people blog because it is an outlet for them to express themselves in a non personal type of way.
I have been looking at blogs for about a year and a half; I always thought these girls who wrote about their Marc Jacobs watch, Prada bag, and Gucci shoes just sat on their butts all day at the computer bragging to others about what their sugar daddy bought for them. I know that sounds very superficial and stereotypical, but I am sure I am not the only one who thinks that about fashion bloggers. I mean, seriously, these girls are like in their mid twenties wearing $900 Jimmy Choo shoes, how in the world is this possible? I want to wear Jimmy Choo shoes for fun too, I apparently missed the bandwagon :(. When I was doing research for my paper, I looked at several blogs, The Pink Peonies,  Lily’s Style Guide, The Daybook, Pioneer Women, and Gal Meets Glam. These blogs are all pretty different in regards to what they blog about. However, I did notice a similarity amongst them, they all seem to be young and they all have expensive taste when it comes to clothing. They wear designer clothing, and do not seem to mind the price tag that accompanies such items. After comparing all of these blogs I did find that they all have sponsors on their pages. It is probably safe to say that whoever sponsors the blog gives them free things to use or to wear in their blogs; hence the $900 Jimmy Choo shoes. For example, on Rachel Parcell’s blog called The Pink Peonies, companies like J Crew and Tory Burch are main sponsors. Rachel usually wears at least one article of clothing or accessory from one of the sponsors she has on her page. Rachel also makes money from each advertisement on her blog. That is also how she affords those beautiful Jimmy Choo shoes.
\
Why do people blog? That is a question I asked myself quite often before I wrote a research paper
for my Writing 121 class a few weeks ago. I am an avid blog reader, there are about four blogs I read every day, mostly fashion blogs. Rachel Parcell who has been blogging for a little over a year, and claims to blog because it is a way for her to express her two loves: fashion and graphic design. While looking on Google, I found a website called The American Multi-Cinema and in their digital libraries I found an article called “Why We Blog.”The article stated “bloggers are driven to document their lives, provide commentary and opinions, express deeply felt emotions, articulate ideas through writing, and form and maintain community forums”.(36)  This pretty much sums up the reasons for why most people blog. It is just like a journal, only more people can read it. I use my blog to write down all these silly ideas and thoughts in my head. It is a way for me to let off some steam.

I am sure most of you reading this blog right now are familiar with blogs and might even have a few favorite blogs you read on a regular basis. You might even be a blogger yourself. There are blogs for pretty much everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!  I am sure most of you probably know what the word “blog” means, however I bet there maybe a few of you that wish you knew the definition, lucky you I granted your wish! A “blog” according to dictionary.com is a “journal written online and accessible to users of the internet.” Blogging became popular about 20 years ago, surprising I know! I have only really heard a buzz about blogging for a few years or so. Blogging has been around longer than I have been alive! When the internet became larger and online networking arose, blogging became popular. Now blogging is a serious tool in online media, promotion of businesses, and a way to express oneself. Blogging is a creative way to create business opportunities and to market yourself. Ree Drummond is a perfect example of this. Ree who started her Pioneer Women blog to keep herself sane in a family full of children, cattle and ranch life, far far away from civilization.  Ree is now a super successful chef on the Food Network all because of her blog. Ree gives me hope that I one day can open my own high end boutique and become super successful. The way to become successful is by using technology  to promote yourself and your business.
Through writing this blog I have learned that fashion blogging and just blogging in general is a way for people to express themselves and to leave a mark on the world. I am really glad I started my blog, and I am excited to continue to blog myself. I hope one day that my blog will lead me to bigger and better things in the fashion industry, help market myself, and being a successful boutique owner.
